New Sounds from Brooklyn!
By Laurie Friedman Adler
This musical composition, composed by Hevreh member Jeff Adler, was recorded on two Native American Drone Flutes. Given the restrictions associated with the Pandemic, our living room became a make- shift recording studio. The advantage of being married made one problem of social distancing not a concern. Practicing for the recording made us feel like performing musicians again and set into motion a pattern of intelligent, creative music making. Following is a description of what this musical composition meant to me and how wonderful it was to be performing musicians even during Covid 19. The composition is called “At the Edge”. The musical repetition propels the need to scream and shout with frustration to escape the dangers At the Edge. Melodic melodies jump relentlessly in steady tempos preparing us for a predetermined journey in solitary existence. The constant staccato sounds and colorful flashes imitate sounds from the street, beckoning us to dream of life still unfolding. Syncopated rhythmic patterns pull us back to reality as spirits dance wildly At the Edge. The music awakens us to accept the creation of life heard by sounds of Native American Drone Flutes. Spirit tones that surround us with intense musical passion, encourage all of humanity to be humane. Listen carefully and hear hope At the Edge………hopefully.
